DeleteQuestion no.1:
ReplyDeleteThe title "Brother in the land" a Hebrew saying is used in play script Act 2 scene9 by Branwell who comments on the situation after the death of Richard. It means that people everywhere are having to bury their loved ones. The title is related to a consequence of war, during the war many people lose their loved ones and then they have to bury them. Its basically about a responsible brother who protects his younger brother in the war. He suffers alone from the pathetic situation without any family support. He struggles hard for the survival in the war,but unfortunately Ben dies.It is also a reference to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their homeland. The writer uses BROTHER as a key word so that the reader could focus on the tragic moment of life when one's blood relative dies and they have to bury them.

DeleteAnswer 11
ReplyDeleteGREED:
Chris and Tracey were greedy in chase scene for the food which Kim was having for herself. They tried to kill Kim.
CDT was also greedy as they stole the food and the important supplies from Richard's cellar and only shared among themselves and gave the poisoned food to the people. CDT members did not cared about each other and always were fighting with each other.
FRIENDSHIP:
Charlie and Danny were one of the biggest example of friendship as they both went on badger hunt together.Danny was not willing to go on the badger hunt but for the sake of friendship he went with Charlie.
Kim and Danny are also an example of friendship as Danny saved Kim from getting killed by Chris in the chase scene.
When Kim was willing to go on the ambush Danny tried to stop her as he cared about her and did not wanted to loose a friend.
SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST:
CDT was the survival of the fittest as they had all the important supplies to survive the nuclear war and they also had the advanced weapons.
Kim and Danny were also the survival of the fittest as they
had strong hearts and they were ready to fight everything they faced.
Rhodes was also the survival of the fittest as he was strong and brave. He did not apologized after killing the innocent people. He also had the supplies for surviving.

DeleteQ4(ans): CDT had a selfish attitude instead of selfless attitude .This is evident in the play script when CDT poisoned the well and forced people to come to their medical wing so that they can get rid of the injuried people.CDT was self concerned as they were living in the Kershaws farm where they were resourceful and were not concerned about ordinary people who were suffering as they were meant to help people but they were doing opposite of it.Their acrimonious behavior was shown when they were serving poisoned food to the Terminals and Spacers.CDT people were heartless as they did not allow MRS Norton to go to hospital as her condition was critical.
ReplyDeleteCDT had a selfish attitude. They took the shelter ( Kershaws farm) but didn't protected people. They were sharing that how much radiation can we inhale,in act 1 scene 1 Renton was telling that we can not inhale more than 200r and 300r can kill you. They were sharing this information between themselves and let the people be unaware. They had already planned that they will not come out of the shelter
DeleteANSWER 11:
ReplyDeleteTHEMES
Desperate Times:
Whenever we put or leave someone in trouble definately they would never help us in our difficult times.
The theme desperate times is evident in the Playscript for instance Walker poisoned the well just to get rid of the injured people.
Finch shot all injured peoples in Hospital.
Rhodes Blasted Richard in a truck and then he refused.
Charlie pointed the gun at Mr.Cartwright in badger hunt Danny stopped Charlie but meanwhile Cartwright shooted Charlie. Charlie lost his life just to keep the sake of Friendship.
Mr.Norton wanted to take Mrs.Norton to hospital as she was not feeling well but Rhodes said that first Mr.Norton have to complete the task assigned then he an take her to hospital.
After war peoples were working under a lot of pressure; They were Fertiling the land to get food and water.
Renton and Laylock joined MASADA to survive.
War and its Consequences:
After the war there was a lack of food and water and thats why innocent people were fertiling the land to earn food and water.
The Radiation sickness was spread all over. The blood relations dies.
The new born babies have certian abnormalities for example Maureens baby was born without mouth.
CDT people build a temporary hospital near kershaws farm ,they promised peoples that they will provide them food ,water ,shelter and medicines to the injured people but they provided them poisned food and water to the injured people so they can get rid of them.
Shadow man gave speeches.
Selfishnes:
Theme Selfishness is evident in the play for example Walker poisoned the well so that they can provide it to injured people and can easily get rid of them.
Mr.Rhodes took Richard with him in truck and then blasted the truck and refused infront of Danny.
Finch shot all the injured people.

DeleteKim is the most decisive character in the playscript 'Brother in the land'as she volunteers for dangerous tasks. The decisive behaviour of Kim is also evident in Act 3 scene 3 in this dialogue 'Its better to die fighting than sitting around in this dump'. Danny stops her in fighting in Ambush but she said that it is her decision and she wont change it.

Question no.2:
ReplyDeleteDanny is a protagonist in the story,He is a fifteen year old boy and the elder son of Richard and Mary Lodge. His real name is Daniel Lodge, He have a five year old brother Ben. He lives in a small town with his family in Skipley.

mr rhodes is the pe teacher not history
DeleteQ5: Write down four consequences of Nuclear war and cite textual references to support your perspective.
ReplyDeleteAns: Nuclear war has more worst consequences than a normal war.People lost their loved ones. The radioactive dust effects people's health and environment as many babies are born with abnormalities.Maureen's baby was born without a mouth. The radioactive dust infertile the soil which results in the lack of food.In the Play Script the CDT members hired able bodied people to cultivate the land which resulted in the death of many people because of doing loads of work as Mrs.Norton died. She was not given proper medications, food and other facilities. Many people became spacers, terminals and invalids as they were dazed and confused and could not speak or understand sensibly. Mr.Bukovsky was in emotional trauma and Richard Lodge was upset due the death of his wife. Due to the lack of food many people became purples and goths as CDT killed the injured people and ate them.
Q6: Compare and contrast the characters of Finch and Rhodes.
Ans: Frank Finch was the commissioner of CDT while Rhodes was a member of MASADA. They both were acrimonious and sadistic as Finch was a part of the team who shot injured people in the Kershaw's Farm and poisoned the well.Rhodes killed Ben and Richard Lodge and he was not ashamed of his merciless actions. They both were clever and intelligent as they judged the situations and acted accordingly. Finch advised his team to be careful in taking decisions in the war times. Rhodes also joined MASADA for his own betterment and protection.
Finch was scared in the war times as he was living in hiding at the Kershaw's Farm but Rhodes fought for the survival of fittest. Finch never questioned the instructions given to him and was dependent on his team mates while Rhodes was authoritative and the master mind of every plan as he wanted to show MASADA that he had leadership qualities.
Q7 :In the light of the events unfolded in the story Kim emerges as the most decisive of the characters.Support this statement by citing appropriate references from the text.
Ans:Kim was a teenager and a tomboy. She never listened to anyone's opinion as once she makes a decision she did not prefer to take anybody's opinion. When Danny stopped her from taking part in the Ambush scene, she said, "Its better to die fighting than sitting in this dump." She became aggressive when she found Mike and Maureen talking about Danny's and her relationship. She tried to kill Chris when he tried to snatch the bag of food from her. This evidences that she fought for her rights. She was rigid as she went against her sister's wedding. She had a solid personality as she talked roughly in any situation.
Answer to Question no. 10)
ReplyDeleteHumans are self protectors whenever they indulge in a crucial situation. After the explosion, all the survivors fought for the necessities like food and shelter hence this desire led to many fatal disputes. The best example which proves the statement is the chase scene which determines the human nature as self centered whenever decisive moments occur. In the greed of food, the three friends Chris, Tracey and Kim were the important characters of the chase scene which was not at all resolute. It resulted as deadly when Chris tried to choke Kim for the bag by pulling the chain around her neck but Kim never let go the bag and kept on fighting for the bag.
Ans3) shadow man is a positive and motivational character who tell other to be safe and protect your self etc. He also explained about the importance of life , enjoy your life , use your life for good reasons , help others and hence don't wish for death. Shadow man is also the leader of group of chorus. The show man is light in the dark (he don't want depression, he's helping people to come out of depression. He's a shadow who comes out and in again, tells the audience what the situation is like and it's the situation of reality. In fact he also give a brutal picture of the blast scene (if blast happens so the scene will be like the picture)Actually the shadow man is Danny.

ReplyDeletethere was a selfless attitude of CDT. The were just too evil.1.they were not treating injured people. they only used to deal with badly injured people who were being killed badly by adding poison poison in there food. 2.they were making people do work. The CDT members were making the civilians do the work they were making the people of Skipley do farming. DeleteWARNING:SPOILERS AHEAD!!
ReplyDeleteQ1ans: The title "Brother in the the land" holds a deep meaning and has great significance. As we reach the end of the playscript we reach the part where Kim,Danny and Ben discover the shop FULL of eatables, supplies and basically it felt like they had discovered Heaven at least for them it felt like it.There was tonnes of canned/tinned food that would provide of quite use for the state that they were living in.As soon as Danny barges through the door he sees all of this but then to his surprise Rhodes shows up and being an insanely selfish man he is he threatens them, even though they apologize for not knowing that it belonged to Rhodes, this is similar to when Rhodes kills Alec Booth in cold blood, despite the fact that Danny keeps on repeating that Alec is innocent. Now let's come back to Rhodes,he points the gun at Ben first but then Danny defends Ben and tells Rhodes that He is the one he should be pointing the gun at,Kim also tries to persuade Rhodes not to kill the innocent 5 year old. He ends up pointing it at the 2 "lovebirds" and in a very very childish and juvenile sense he says "eeney meeney minee mo" And at random picks one of Kim and Danny as he is singing the rhyme Kim and Danny confess their Feelings to each other. Ben is extraordinarily smart and he manages to quietly lean back at the counter and he grabs a can of beans and throws it on the head of Rhodes this action knocks Rhodes out for a while but he fires the gun and falls down, thankfully the gun wasn't fired at either Danny or Kim but he shoots it as he is slowly falling down.Kim and Danny are finally free and Kim runs over to Rhodes to assure that he's dead And i quote "Ben you're a genius!" Danny runs over to Ben and Ben has been shot by the aimless fire of Rhodes, the bullet goes right in Ben's mouth and Danny us shattered,Ben says something to Danny (you have to read to find out what he says as his last words) and then Ben dies in Danny's arms.
Kim and Danny end up together and We find out that Danny has been the shadow man all along. This is the story of his brother
That's the significance of the title
"BROTHER IN THE LAND"
